Oh God, I’m glad you came

As true as the letters to this name

An oasis is what heaven is

Same as when I was a kid

In heaven did I reside

With cherub laughing guides

and gates golden wound

Beside me God was found

And then whispers beckoned

To second guess what was heaven

This way you should find

Exactly what I have in mind

And down and down I followed

through twisted and blinded path

Away from plush and lovely grace

Hath death washed over my face

I looked back and saw I was lost

And my guide mockingly taught

‘It was not me but you who is the fool,

Fought for heaven that wasn’t even true’

I stood plain and true to myself

Even as the devil bade me to hell

And I promised myself this

It wasn’t meant to be like this

So in circles did I go forever

Making a space in hell that was better

Until a child beside me called my name
